Congressman Andy Harris announced on May 24 that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $3,139,017 through the Health Center Program to Three Lower Counties Community Services, Inc., to support healthcare services on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
The funding aims to bolster care in Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties by helping local clinics remain staffed and ensuring appointment availability for residents who may have limited access to nearby medical care.
Harris said, “I want to thank the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for investing in healthcare on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and recognizing how important local clinics are for my district. These clinics handle routine checkups, prescription refills, diabetes treatment, and preventative care for patients in Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties. This investment helps keep clinics staffed and appointments available for residents who can already face long drives or limited options for nearby medical care.”
Andy Harris is currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 1st district after replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011; he previously served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 to 2011, according to Wikipedia.
Harris was born in New York City in 1957 and lives in Cambridge; he graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree, according to Wikipedia.
The grant is expected to provide continued support for primary care services on the Eastern Shore as local leaders look ahead at maintaining access amid ongoing challenges.
