Rep. Andy Harris, MD, currently serving as the U.S. Congressman for Maryland’s 1st district, posted a series of messages on September 10, 2025, addressing the importance of science in public health and expressing condolences following the death of Charlie Kirk.
In a post published at 17:30 UTC, Harris stated, “Exactly right—science must be guided by facts, not politics. Putting science back at the center is the only way to protect public health and rebuild confidence.”
Later that day, at 18:51 UTC, he shared a brief message: “Praying for Charlie Kirk “
At 20:56 UTC on the same date, Harris expanded on his earlier message with another post: “Charlie Kirk was an American patriot whose impact will never be forgotten. Nicole and I are praying for his wife Erika and his children during this time of unimaginable loss.”
Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st congressional district since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris earned his BS from Johns Hopkins University in 1977.
