Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of messages on social media recognizing nurses, encouraging prayer, and honoring military service.
On May 6, Harris addressed healthcare professionals in his district and nationwide: “To the nurses in Maryland’s First District and across the country—thank you for the care you provide and the work you do every day.”
The following day, marking a national observance, Harris wrote: “On this National Day of Prayer, I encourage Americans across the country to join together in prayer for our nation, our communities, and one another. Let us pray for wisdom, strength, and God’s guidance for our country.” (May 7).
On May 8, commemorating a significant historical anniversary, Harris stated: “Victory in Europe came at an extraordinary cost. Today we honor all those who served and sacrificed.”
Harris has served as a U.S. Representative since 2011 after replacing Frank Kratovil. Before his tenure in Congress, he was active in state politics as a member of both the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University (1977).
