Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared a series of posts on his social media account addressing topics ranging from the U.S. Coast Guard’s anniversary to border security and nutrition policy.
On August 4, 2025, Harris acknowledged the founding of a key military branch by stating, “Happy Birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard! We salute the brave men and women who serve with honor, courage, and commitment”.
Later that day, he commented on legislative efforts related to immigration enforcement: “The One Big Beautiful Bill gives ICE and our Border Patrol agents what they’ve needed for years: resources. Resources to secure the border, enforce our laws, and remove criminal illegals.”
On August 5, 2025, Harris highlighted recent federal actions regarding nutrition benefits: “Amazing work by @SecRollins @SecKennedy @DrMakaryFDA and the Trump Administration. Let’s keep moving toward a future where taxpayer-funded nutrition benefits support nutrition, not junk food. Make America Healthy Again!”
Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st congressional district since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate between 1999 and 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge at age 66, Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.
