Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, highlighted the importance of small businesses and tourism in his recent social media posts while also discussing legislative efforts related to congressional eligibility.

On May 4, Harris posted on X, formerly Twitter, celebrating National Small Business Week: “Happy National Small Business Week!

Small businesses drive the economic engine of Maryland’s First District by creating jobs, serving our communities, and bringing people into our towns year after year.”

Later that same day, he recognized National Travel & Tourism Week with a post about its local impact: “It’s National Travel & Tourism Week.

Across the Eastern Shore and in cities like Ocean City, tourism supports jobs, brings in millions in local spending, and showcases our local communities and small businesses.” (May 4).

On May 6, Harris shared his participation in a Newsmax segment alongside Rep. Fine to discuss legislation regarding dual citizenship for members of Congress: “WATCH: Tonight, I joined @RepFine on Newsmax to discuss his bill banning dual citizenship for members of Congress, which I’m proud to cosponsor.

If you’re writing America’s laws and shaping U.S. policy, your allegiance should be to the United States — and the American people”.

Harris has served as the representative for Maryland’s 1st district since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil. Before joining Congress, he served in both chambers of the Maryland legislature from 1999 through 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge at age 66, Harris is an alumnus of Johns Hopkins University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.
