Later that day, he expressed support for former President Donald Trump’s initiatives directed at older Americans. In a tweet dated August 14, Harris wrote: “President Trump is keeping his promises to America’s seniors. The One Big Beautiful Bill delivers meaningful tax relief for seniors, ensuring they keep more of their retirement income.”

On August 15, Harris praised Representative Mary Miller’s legislative efforts regarding parental consent in schools. He stated: “Glad to see @RepMaryMiller standing up for parents! Her bill restores parental rights—requiring written consent before schools can pry into your child’s private life.”

Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st congressional district since defeating Frank Kratovil in 2011 and previously served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957, Harris resides in Cambridge and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.
