Rep. Andy Harris, MD, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 1st district, has shared several thoughts on recent legislative matters through his social media platform. Known for his consistent communication with constituents, Harris expressed views on Medicaid spending and policy changes proposed by the GOP.

On May 13, 2025, Rep. Andy Harris tweeted about Medicaid spending under the GOP plan. He stated that “Medicaid spending goes up 25% under the GOP plan.” Harris questioned why Democrats oppose efforts to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse within government spending and specifically within the Medicaid program.

The following day, May 14, 2025, Harris addressed a proposal regarding Medicaid policy changes. He critiqued the effectiveness of stopping waste and fraud in Medicaid by stating that “The proposal to stop waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicaid will do little to achieve that.” He highlighted that work requirements for able-bodied adults would not begin for four years and could be waived by states under hardship conditions they determine.

Later on May 14th, Harris invited followers to tune into his upcoming appearance on NEWSMAX at 7:25 am via another tweet: “Coming up on @NEWSMAX 7:25am Tune in!”

Andy Harris has been representing Maryland’s 1st District since he replaced Frank Kratovil in 2011. Before his tenure in Congress, he served from 1999 to 2011 in the Maryland Senate. Born in New York City in 1957 and now residing in Cambridge at age 66, he graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a BS degree.
