Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to comment on immigration, government shutdown messaging, and COVID-era policy measures.

On October 15, 2025, Harris stated, “The bottom line is the Democrats want to make it very attractive for illegal aliens to come to this country and stay in this country — and that’s just not what’s going to make America great again.”

Later that same day, Harris shared a quote about Republican messaging regarding the government shutdown: ““Members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus held a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, making the argument that Republicans have a winning hand when it comes to messaging over the government shutdown.” MORE IN @FoxNews https://t.co/IA26nT0efI”

On October 16, 2025, Harris commented on the lingering effects of pandemic-era policies: “The bottom line is the COVID-era enhancements should be eliminated. COVID is over — it created tremendous distortions in the marketplace. It added millions of people to Obamacare who didn’t even qualify. But since the insurance companies are making tens of billions of dollars on”

Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st district since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil. He previously served in the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011. Harris was born in New York City in 1957 and currently resides in Cambridge. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University, awarded in 1977.
