Rep. Andy Harris, MD, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 1st district since 2011, has been active on social media addressing various issues. Harris, who replaced Frank Kratovil in Congress and previously served in the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011, is known for his direct communication style.

On July 5, 2025, Harris expressed his condolences regarding a tragic event in Texas. He tweeted: “Heartbreaking news out of Texas. We’re praying for the families affected and grateful for the tireless work of first responders, local leaders on the ground, and to @chiproytx, who is standing strong for his community during this tragedy.”

Later that day, Harris announced an upcoming appearance on a news channel. At 17:03 UTC he posted: “Coming up on @NEWSMAX around 1:10pm. Tune in!”

On July 7, 2025, Harris addressed claims about Medicaid changes through another tweet. He stated: “The Left is lying—and the media’s amplifying it. No one is taking Medicaid from those who truly need it. Women, children, the elderly, and the disabled are protected. Period.”

Harris was born in New York City in 1957 and currently resides in Cambridge. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.
