Rep. Andy Harris, who has represented Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 2011, recently posted a series of tweets addressing public safety concerns in Washington D.C., an upcoming media appearance, and a federal grant program to combat invasive species in the Chesapeake Bay.

On August 7, 2025, Harris criticized local governance in the nation’s capital: “Instead of fixing crime, D.C. leaders decriminalize dangerous behavior and promote soft-on-crime policies. The D.C. government has proven incapable or unwilling to enforce basic public safety.”

The following day, on August 8, he announced an appearance on national television: ” Coming up on @MorningsMaria around 7:20am. Tune in!”

Later that day, Harris expressed appreciation for federal efforts to address environmental threats to Maryland’s waterways: “Thank you to @POTUS, @USDA, and @SecRollins for launching this grant program to fight back against the invasive blue catfish threatening the Chesapeake Bay. This is a huge win for Maryland’s watermen and our economy. Maryland is grateful for the partnership and support. “

Harris has been an active voice in Congress since taking office in 2011 after defeating Frank Kratovil. He previously served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and now residing in Cambridge, Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.
