Rep. Andy Harris, MD, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to comment on agricultural security and immigration policy in a series of posts between August 15 and August 17, 2025.

On August 15, Harris addressed efforts to protect the U.S. food supply from foreign threats by supporting investment in biosecurity measures. The following day, August 16, Harris criticized Democratic lawmakers regarding their approach to immigration and public safety: “Repeatedly, Democrats have abandoned the American people — creating laws to protect illegal immigrants, wasting taxpayer dollars on migrant programs, and fighting President Trump’s mission to make D.C. safe again. Harris has served as Maryland’s 1st district representative since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil. Before joining Congress, he was a member of both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 through 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris holds a BS degree from Johns Hopkins University (1977).
