Rep. Andy Harris, MD, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, marked the anniversary of September 11 and addressed concerns about national security and political activism in a series of social media posts this week.
On September 11, Harris reflected on the events of 2001, stating: “On this solemn anniversary of 9/11, we honor the lives lost, the bravery of our first responders, and a nation that stood united in the face of evil. We will never forget.” (September 11, 2025)
The following day, Harris announced his participation with other lawmakers to advocate for an investigation into what he described as organized campaigns against American institutions. He wrote: “I joined several of my colleagues in calling for a select committee to investigate the radical left’s coordinated campaign against America and the rule of law. Congress must act to follow the money and identify the perpetrators of these coordinated anti-American assaults.” (September 12, 2025)
Later on September 12, Harris elaborated on his position during a media appearance: “We are witnessing a sustained breakdown of law and order, fueled by anti-American ideology. I joined @SchmittNYC on @NEWSMAX to discuss our call to form a select committee to investigate the influence and power behind the radical left’s assault on America.”
Harris has served in Congress since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011 and previously held positions in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature from 1999 until his election to federal office. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge at age 66, Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.
