Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on August 11, 2025, addressing crime and public safety in Washington, D.C., and expressing support for former President Donald Trump’s approach to law enforcement.

In his first post at 12:24 p.m., Harris stated, “Lawlessness in Washington, D.C. must end. Our nation’s capital should be a model of safety and order—not chaos.”

Later that afternoon at 3:07 p.m., he added, “President Trump is committed to restoring law and order in Washington, D.C. He secured the border in record time—now he’s bringing that same determination to the streets of our nation’s capital.”

At 3:45 p.m., Harris continued his commentary by posting, “We cannot allow our nation’s capital to be a haven for crime. We must make it safe again—and President Trump is leading the charge.”

Harris has served as the U.S. Representative for Maryland’s 1st District since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011. Before his tenure in Congress, he served on the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011 and previously worked in the Maryland House of Representatives. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Johns Hopkins University in 1977.
