Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on his official X (formerly Twitter) account between May 10 and May 11, 2026, addressing topics ranging from condolences for a fellow congressman to national security and law enforcement appreciation.
On May 10, Harris expressed his condolences regarding the death of a colleague: “Saddened to hear of Congressman Bill Posey’s passing. Praying for his family and all who knew him as they mourn this loss.”
The following day, marking National Police Week, Harris acknowledged law enforcement officers: “Happy National Police Week! I’ve had the opportunity to meet numerous law enforcement officers across Maryland’s First District, and I’m grateful for their commitment to keeping our communities safe. To the police officers in my district and across the country, thank you for”
Later on May 11, he commented on international affairs concerning Iran and maritime security: “The Strait of Hormuz is a critical international waterway, and Iran cannot be allowed to retain nuclear capability while threatening global commerce.”
Harris has served in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil. He previously held positions in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University (1977).
