Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, has recently voiced concerns on social media about federal actions impacting his constituents and policy issues before congressional committees.
On April 15, 2026, Harris posted that “NOAA announced a delay in updated recreational fishing measures just weeks before the season, affecting watermen and small businesses on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. I’ve sent a letter raising these concerns and will be reviewing NOAA’s handling of this closely.”
The following day, April 16, Harris thanked an official for participating in a budget hearing: “Thank you to @SecRollins for joining today’s FY27 budget hearing before the House Appropriations Agriculture Subcommittee. I raised my concerns regarding the expansion of solar development on productive farmland, building on USDA’s action last August to restrict loans and grants”.
Later that same day, Harris commented on another subcommittee meeting: “Good discussion with @SecKennedy at today’s House Appropriations Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Subcommittee regarding HHS’s budget request. We covered why Americans are getting sicker despite massive federal spending, the role federal nutrition programs play in”.
Harris has served as a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 1st District since 2011 after replacing Frank Kratovil. He previously held positions in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.
