Rep. Andy Harris, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 1st district since 2011, posted several statements on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on October 6, 2025, addressing military policy and the ongoing government shutdown.

In his first post of the day, Harris wrote: “As a veteran, I am not surprised that this is what happens when you get “woke” out of the military. President Trump and Pete Hegseth are Making Our Military Great Again! https://t.co/OxMusk8s7s” (October 6, 2025).

Later in the morning, Harris announced an upcoming appearance on television: ” Coming up on @NEWSMAX to talk about the latest on the Democrat Shutdown! Tune in!” (October 6, 2025).

Addressing the ongoing government funding impasse, Harris stated: “The Republicans fingerprints aren’t on this shutdown. We passed a bill to keep the government open. This is a DEMOCRAT SHUTDOWN. https://t.co/rqwau57gak” (October 6, 2025).

Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st congressional district since defeating Frank Kratovil in 2011. Before serving in Congress, he held positions in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris earned his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1977.
