Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media between August 11 and August 12, 2025, addressing recent legislative developments, a high-profile criminal case, and energy policy in Maryland.

On August 11, Harris commented on the role of House Freedom Caucus members during recent legislative negotiations. He stated: “As usual, the House Freedom Caucus members were labeled ‘holdouts’ throughout the process, not because they opposed the bill but because they refused to go along for the sake of political convenience.” The post also referenced additional information from the National Taxpayers Union.

Later that day, Harris addressed the sentencing in the Rachel Morin case. In his words: “Rachel Morin’s illegal immigrant murderer will spend the rest of his life behind bars with no chance of parole. This verdict delivers justice, but the wound of her loss will never fully heal. While justice has been served, we continue to lift her loved ones in prayer as they…”

On August 12, Harris criticized state-level energy initiatives by Democratic lawmakers in Annapolis. He wrote: “Prepare for more as Maryland’s liberal Democrats in Annapolis pursue a crazy energy policy that doesn’t care whether you have electricity or not, and whether it’s expensive or not.”

Harris has served in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil and previously held seats in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris earned his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University.
