Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, addressed several issues on his social media account between January 5 and January 7, 2026.
On January 5, Harris advocated for changes to the healthcare system by stating, “We need to have health care reform across the spectrum that lowers premiums for everyone.”
The following day, he expressed condolences regarding a congressional colleague: “Saddened to hear of the passing of Doug LaMalfa.
He was a committed pro-life advocate and a principled conservative who served with conviction. Doug will be greatly missed in Congress, and I deeply respected him as a colleague and leader.
Please join me in praying for his” (January 6).
On January 7, Harris commented on voting rights: “We think only American citizens should be voting. What a novel idea… Eighty percent of Americans agree you should have to show an ID to vote.”
Harris has been serving in Congress since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011 and previously held positions in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 until his election to Congress. Born in New York City in 1957, Harris is currently based in Cambridge and holds a BS from Johns Hopkins University.
