Rep. Andy Harris, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 1st district since 2011, has used his social media platform to address issues ranging from college sports recruitment to the importance of the hospitality industry and recognition of Armed Forces Day.

He wrote, “Honored to receive the @AHLA ‘Spirit of Hospitality’ Award. Places like Ocean City are built around a strong hospitality industry. Hotels, restaurants, and small businesses across the Eastern Shore depend on a successful summer tourism season. Thank you to AHLA for your”.

On May 16, 2026, Harris marked Armed Forces Day by thanking military personnel serving nationwide and within his district: “Today, we proudly recognize Armed Forces Day and thank the men and women currently serving in uniform across every branch of the United States military. Across Maryland’s First District, servicemembers carry out critical missions, strengthen America’s military readiness…”

Harris was born in New York City in 1957 and currently resides in Cambridge. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977 and previously served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature before entering Congress.
